Kingsville house fire causes $250K in damage, displaces family of 3

A fire heavily damaged a single-family home in Kingsville on Tuesday morning, displacing two adults and an infant, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.

On June 16, around 7:51 a.m., firefighters were dispatched to a one-story home with an attached garage in the 2400 block of Whitt Road for a single alarm blaze.

Crews from the Fallston Volunteer Fire & Ambulance Company and the Joppa-Magnolia Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene, where 44 firefighters worked to bring the fire under control in about 20 minutes.

Investigators said the fire originated in the attached garage and caused an estimated $250,000 in damage.

According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the home’s female occupant heard a smoke alarm and initially checked the living room, where she noticed smoke.

After tracing the source, she discovered a significant fire burning in the garage.

She immediately closed the door separating the garage from the home, evacuated with her infant son, and called 911.

Investigators credited the occupant’s quick actions with helping contain the fire largely to the garage and preventing more extensive damage to the residence.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials said investigators continue to examine all possible accidental causes, including an unspecified electrical failure. A failure involving lithium-ion batteries also has not been ruled out.

The fire displaced three residents — two adults and one infant.
