ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY (WBFF) — Salons and barbershops in Anne Arundel County may soon be able to give customers small amounts of liquor. This legislative session, state lawmakers passed a bill, which is at Gov. Wes Moore’s desk, that would permit the practice starting this July.
The legislation would allow salons and barbershops with existing alcohol licenses to also offer 1.7 ounces of liquor during services. Such establishments are already limited to serving at most 12 ounces of beer and 5 ounces of wine per customer. Businesses with the license will still only be able to provide beer, wine and now liquor to people receiving a cosmetology service, receiving a barbering service or participating in a fundraising event.
The bill mirrors 2025 legislation passed by the state legislature for Montgomery County businesses.
The Anne Arundel County bill was kick-started by Steve Frid, owner of the Annapolis Harbour Center location of Hammer & Nails, a luxury men’s barbershop set to open this summer. After he signed his lease, he realized that this location of Hammer & Nails would not have been able to serve liquor, as done in its other locations.
