BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Drivers in Baltimore should prepare for a series of road closures and lane restrictions this weekend as the city hosts several major events and performs scheduled maintenance.
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation announced that traffic modifications will affect multiple neighborhoods from Friday through Sunday, impacting everything from charity walks to football games. The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk will take place Saturday near M&T Bank Stadium and Camden Yards. From 7 a.m. to 12 p.m., Hamburg Street between Leadenhall and Russell Streets, the Russell Street Service Drive northbound between Hamburg and Ostend Streets and Lee Street between Eutaw and Russell Streets will close to vehicles. One travel lane will be coned off along the walk route where possible and drivers are advised to watch for pedestrians and use alternate routes.
Also on Saturday, the Mother Seton Academy Cardinal Cup 5K will begin at 8 a.m. in front of the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen. Runners will follow a route through Amberly Way, N. Charles Street, Wyndhurst Avenue, Roland Avenue and E. Northern Parkway. Temporary lane closures and parking restrictions will be in place, with one coned-off travel lane where possible. The city recommends motorists steer clear of the area during the event.
The Port to Fort 6K is scheduled for Saturday in Locust Point starting at 8:30 a.m. from the Liberty Lot at 1215 E. Fort Avenue. The race route will affect Fort Avenue, Jones Street, Porter Street, Belt Street, Randall Street and Webster Street. These streets will be closed between 8 a.m. and 12 p.m. and parking restrictions will be enforced. One travel lane will be coned off along the race path and temporary traffic stops will be made to ensure safety.
For drivers who use the Charm City Circulator, be aware that detours for the Banner and Cherry Routes will be in effect Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Several other city streets will experience closures throughout the weekend for tree trimming, cleaning, repairs and a special event. On Saturday, southbound right lane closures on the Jones Falls Expressway/I-83 will run from Northern Parkway to Maryland Avenue between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. The Waterview Avenue and Westport Avenue access ramps to MD295 north will be closed during the same time for tree work. Pratt Street will have lane closures from Hanover to South Streets from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a crane operation, while Redwood Street will be closed between S. Calvert and South Streets from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. for Blacktoberfest.
On Sunday, drivers can expect I-83 northbound and southbound left lane closures from Fayette Street to the city/county line from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a northbound right lane closure on Hilton Parkway between Hilton Street and North Avenue from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Baltimore Farmers’ Market will prompt street and lane closures Sunday from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Holliday Street from E. Pleasant to E. Saratoga Streets, Pleasant Street at Holliday Street and the center lane of Hillen Street between Front Street and Fallsway. Parking restrictions will be enforced in these areas.
The Baltimore Ravens home game at M&T Bank Stadium on Sunday will require significant road and lane closures beginning at approximately 8 a.m. The northbound Russell Street Service Drive between West and Hamburg Streets and the Hamburg Street Bridge between Leadenhall and Paca Streets will be closed for game arrivals. The Ostend Street Bridge between Sharp and Warner Streets will also close for ingress, reopening after kickoff before closing again at the start of the fourth quarter for egress. Warner Street, Alluvion Street, Worcester Street, Bayard Street and Hamburg Street will all see special traffic patterns or closures to accommodate crowds, especially during the game’s fourth quarter. No southbound travel will be allowed on Hanover Street between Henrietta and Hamburg Streets at that point and all traffic will be diverted onto Henrietta Street for east or westbound travel.
After the Ravens game, city officials will pilot a new post-game traffic pattern along Hanover Street to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion. Two eastbound lanes will exit Lot H onto West Street, continuing to Hanover Street, with both lanes turning right and operating southbound between West and Wells Streets. Parking restrictions will affect portions of West Street and Hanover Street, as well as Residential Permit Parking Area 30, reducing available spaces.
Officials urge football fans to obey all parking and permit regulations in neighborhoods surrounding the stadium. Fans are encouraged to use commercial lots or public transportation, such as the Charm City Circulator, rather than parking in residential areas without a permit.
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation asks motorists to be patient, remain alert for pedestrians and cyclists and seek alternate routes if possible, as all activities are weather permitting and traffic conditions may change throughout the weekend.
