MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A 20-year-old man has pleaded guilty in a 2025 high-speed crash that claimed the life of a 71-year-old woman in Montgomery County, Maryland.
Brody Richardson, of Boyds, pleaded guilty Tuesday to grossly negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle and homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, prosecutors said.
The crash killed Mary Elizabeth Moody on July 21, 2025, at Great Seneca Highway and Mateny Road in Germantown.

According to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, Richardson was driving a 2021 Mazda 3 north on Great Seneca Highway around 10:30 p.m. when he hit Moody’s 2018 Subaru Forester as she turned left on Mateny Road.
Investigators found that Richardson, who was 19 at the time, was driving at 94 mph and had a blood alcohol concentration of 0.20 at the time of the crash, prosecutors said.

Maryland’s legal limit for drivers 21 and older is 0.08, though Richardson was underage.
Richardson admitted to drinking alcohol and using marijuana before driving, according to the state’s attorney’s office.
Prosecutors said surveillance video and a receipt from Travilah Beer & Wine in Rockville showed Richardson consumed five beers between arriving at 6:57 p.m. and leaving at 10:17 p.m.
Two store employees have pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to someone under 21 and are awaiting sentencing.
Richardson is set to be sentenced Oct. 30. Under the plea agreement, he faces up to seven years in prison.
