Man sentenced to 5 years for role in multi-state burglary ring, owes more than $2M

MARYLAND (7News) — A man was sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a commercial burglary ring spanning New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Delaware.

On Tuesday, Dominique Hayes, 30, of Capitol Heights, Maryland, was sentenced for conspiring to transport stolen property from consignment shops across multiple states, announced U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.

This followed Hayes’s guilty plea in November to one count of conspiracy to receive stolen property, and he was ordered to pay $2,167,688 in restitution to victims of the burglaries.

According to documents and statements made in court, Hayes was part of a commercial burglary ring that committed at least 18 break-ins in multiple states between March and November 2024.

The crooks would target consignment shops in the middle of the night, break in windows and doors with sledgehammers, and take the loot across state lines to be sold or disposed of. Some shops were hit more than once, said the U.S. Attorney’s office.

The ring stole designer handbags and other valuable goods from these shops, and the victims collectively lost more than $2 million in property.
