WASHINGTON (7News) — Maryland transportation authorities are launching a new MARC commuter rail service between Baltimore and Montgomery County that they said would reduce normal travel times in half, the agency announced on Wednesday.
Starting Sept. 28, the service, called “Brunswick-Camden Run-Through,” would connect travelers on weekdays through 12 stops. One train will operate in the morning and one returning in the evening.
The Maryland Transit Administration said the new service will create a fast, seamless, and transfer-free ride through central Maryland, all without additional annual operating costs.
The train starts at Brunswick and will stop at Point of Rocks, Barnesville, Germantown, Metropolitan Grove, Gaithersburg, Rockville, Kensington, and Silver Spring before it crosses onto the Camden Line to College Park and Laurel before arriving in Baltimore.
The route, officials said, would otherwise take passengers looking to go from Germantown to College Park 46 minutes instead of 57 minutes, and Silver Spring to Baltimore Camden Station 57 minutes instead of 117 minutes, among other reductions.
Officials said service for passengers on the Camden and Brunswick Lines will be modified due to the new train service once it begins.
