MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Maryland woman will donate Montgomery County police $1,000 after she was accused of using an AI-generated image to fake a home invasion in October 2025, county prosecutors said.
Once paid, police said they will drop charges against 28-year-old Moesha Gardener after she was accused of telling her husband on Oct. 8, 2025, a man forced his way onto the McGrath Boulevard home, which prompted the husband to call 911.

Gardener was initially charged with making a false statement concerning an emergency/crime and false statement to a state official concerning a crime.
“We believe this is a fair resolution,” said Montgomery County State’s Attorney John McCarthy in a statement. “People who participate in social media-related pranks need to be aware that there could be unintended consequences.”
Once the husband and police arrived, Gardener admitted to sending the text messages with an AI-generated photo of an intruder on their couch to her husband as a prank, officials said.
Police said the call sent eight marked police cruisers to the home with sirens active.
Gardener will have 90 days to make the donation, police said.
