MILFORD, Mich. — President Donald Trump in Michigan Monday, speaking at the General Motors Proving Grounds in Milford, seeking to present a positive message on manufacturing.
White House spokesperson Luz Huston said Trump is delivering on his promise to bring manufacturing back to America and rebuild the auto industry.
“The President pledged to put Michigan workers back to work, and he’s doing it,” she said. “Under President Trump’s America First agenda, American automakers are investing, hiring, and expanding at a pace not seen in decades.”
The White House touting Trump’s work on the Working Families Tax Cuts, elimination of taxes on tips and overtime.
Since President Trump returned to office, they also maintain Michigan has secured billions in investment, creating thousands of jobs.
The administration further asserting that tariffs on foreign vehicles and vehicle parts are boosting Michigan’s auto industry.
Multiple Republican Michigan politicians appeared before the president spoke, including Michigan House Speaker, Rep. Matt Hall; former Congressman and Candidate for U.S. Senate, Mike Rogers; Congressman and Candidate for Governor, John James; and Congressman Tom Barrett.
Hall told reporters he think Trump is delivering on his policies.
“We’re seeing jobs created, we’re seeing manufacturing coming back to Michigan, including with General Motors,” Hall said. “I’m excited he’s here to help highlight that and how his tariff policies are working, bringing the Canadians back to the table. He’s going to fight for American jobs, for our automotive workers and our farmers.”
Rogers welcomed Trump’s efforts on re-shoring jobs in the U.S. and Michigan.
“Small manufacturers, they are benefiting from reshoring,” Rogers said. “Some of it’s from Japanese companies who are, calling up, going, hey, you know that tariff thing? I’d like to buy more products from you in Michigan, built in Michigan. That’s a really good sign, and that means wages will go up, and if we can get these prices pushed down, that’s a winning combination.”
Nick Cucchiara, of Howell, one of the many people in attendance at the event. He said he’s a big fan of the president, noting the main issues he’s supported the president on are the Economy, Iran and immigration.
“I can’t think of anything he’s working on that I’m against,” Cucchiara said.
Gary Jenkin, of Brownstown, said he supports James’ campaign for governor on top of the president, who’s endorsed the congressman.
“He’s basically ending the war in Iran,” Jenkin said of Trump. “No other president would stand up to Iran and the entire entire world is thankful for that. Not just here in America, but I think across the world.”
He wanted to hear that the war is coming to a close.
“Sign the peace treaty and move forward so gas prices will come back down to where they were before,” Jenkin said.
Michigan Democrats held a virtual press conference ahead of Trump’s visit, slamming the president.
“Donald Trump promised to stand by working people,” party Chair Curtis Hertel said. “Instead, Republicans enacted the largest transfer of wealth to the ultra-rich in U.S. history. Trump has betrayed Michiganders .”
