Protect Maryland votes issues statement on Election Results

Protect Maryland Votes issued the following statement from Senior Advisor Doug Mayer on Question 3 ballot results:

“While tonight is disappointing, it’s the predictable result when the dominant political party does everything in its power, at every step, to deceive Maryland voters.

“The Maryland General Assembly, led by Senate President Bill Ferguson, passed a deliberately confusing ballot amendment while violating its own laws, then claimed a false moral high ground, telling Marylanders the right thing to do was to disenfranchise their own friends and neighbors.

“They’ve only made our state less special, less united, and more like every other state they claim to loathe. What’s worse, they convinced a majority of Marylanders to do exactly what they’ve spent more than a decade accusing President Trump of doing – rigging the system to hold onto power. And they did it with a smile on their face.

“Governor Moore funneled millions of dollars in from outside of Maryland, never once told the truth to the people he swore an oath to protect, and even managed to get a former president to do his dirty work. This was never about fairness, the Voting Rights Act, or any of the other lies that came out of their mouths daily. It was always about the total political power they’ve been dead set on accumulating for nearly 30 years.

“The outcome, whether they admit it or not, will be an 8-0 map where 49 percent of voters will have no legitimate voice in choosing their congressional House representation. Democracy is a big idea, and its death has been reported prematurely more times than we can count, but a little bit of democracy did die tonight.

“Congrats.”
