MARYLAND (WBFF) — Rep. Sarah Elfreth (D) has been re-elected to the U.S. House to represent Maryland’s 3rd Congressional District in the 2026 General Election, according to the Associated Press.
Elfreth defeated Republican opponent Bernard (Berney) Flowers to secure a second term in Congress. Elfreth’s current term ends on Jan. 3, 2027. She has represented Maryland’s Anne Arundel, Howard, and Carroll Counties in Congress since she assumed office in January 2025.
Elfreth defeated Austin Dyches (D), Jennifer Cross (D), Sean Hammond (D), and Robert Morrison (D) in the Democratic primary.
Elfreth, a former Maryland State Senator from New Jersey and graduate of Towson University and the Johns Hopkins University, built her re-election campaign around bipartisan problem-solving, support for military families and federal workers, and environmental protection, particularly the Chesapeake Bay.
According to her campaign website, Elfreth is the youngest woman elected to Congress from Maryland. Elfreth served on the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Armed Services Committee during her first term in Congress.
Before coming to Congress, Elfreth spent six years serving in the Maryland State Senate and passed 91 bipartisan bills into law, said her campaign website.
In October 2026, Gov. Wes Moore signed an executive order establishing the Maryland Maritime Task Force, which Elfreth is co-chairing to identify opportunities to expand the state’s maritime industry and strengthen its economic competitiveness.
