BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — Baltimore’s Department of Public Works has suspended residential recycling collections through the remainder of the week as crews contend with an extreme heat emergency.
The temporary suspension, which began Wednesday, is intended to reduce sanitation workers’ exposure to dangerous temperatures while allowing crews to prioritize trash collection, the department said.
Residential recycling drop-off centers will operate on a modified schedule of 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. through the end of the week instead of their seasonal summer hours. Officials said additional changes to sanitation operations could be made if the extreme heat persists.
DPW sanitation yards will remain open during normal business hours Friday but will be closed Saturday in observance of Independence Day.
