BALTIMORE, MD (WBFF) — The 8×10, Baltimore’s small but beloved music club, announced Monday that it has found new owners — including local musician Cris Jacobs — staving off plans to shutter the venue in two weeks.
The club, a Federal Hill fixture since 1983, has been bought by the Philadelphia-based Rising Sun Presents production company. The 8×10 will go on a three-month performing hiatus to allow the new team to set up operations beginning July 1 but will reopen in October, according to Chris Perella, Rising Sun’s owner and general manager.
“I am excited to save such an iconic music venue,” Perella said, noting that during the past 43 years, The 8×10 has hosted performances by such legendary acts as Billy Joel, Nirvana and the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
“The response to the purchase has been overwhelming, honestly,” he said. “The best part of my day has been reading the comments in texts and on social media about how excited people are. It is wind under our sails.”
