Baltimore — The family of a man struck and killed by a Metro train in Pikesville is suing the Maryland Transit Administration, hoping to learn more about what led to his death and compensate his two children for their loss.
According to the lawsuit, which was transferred Tuesday to Baltimore County Circuit Court, Kaseem Malik Ray went to the Old Court Metro Station after hours on April 16, 2023. Although it was just after 1 a.m. that Sunday, the entrance was not locked, monitored or secured, the lawsuit states, and Ray tripped from the platform into the path of a moving train.
“On information and belief,” the family said Ray survived the initial impact. He lay there “for sufficient time” after the crash that MTA could have rescued Ray if the station was monitoring the tracks, according to the complaint.
Since then, Ray’s family has not been able to review security footage from the station or an incident report from the crash, their attorney, Mark Epstein, told The Baltimore Sun.
