MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. — The body of a 16-year-old boy who went missing this week was recovered from the Potomac River Friday, according to Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief David Pazos.
The boy, whose name has not been released, was last seen Thursday while swimming with friends, and search and rescue crews responded to reports of him missing around 6:15 a.m. They searched into the evening in extreme heat but were unsuccessful.
The search resumed Friday morning, and the boy’s body was discovered around 9 a.m. near Sandy Point, Pazos said.
The Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office has not released a cause of death, but if officials conclude he drowned, he would be the third person to drown in the river this year.
