MOUNT AIRY (WBFF) — Nearly one year after 13-year-old Mason Kearns’ death, Mount Airy’s planned storm siren system is moving closer to installation, but the town has secured only 12% of the needed funds. One resident is stepping in to help, creating a donation effort aimed at speeding the project.
Joshua Marks said he is establishing a charitable fund through the Community Foundation of Carroll County that would permit tax-deductible donations toward the siren project.
“We should be on top of this now,” Marks said. “This is for the public’s health, safety and welfare.”
Marks said he began pushing for the siren project last year, shortly before Kearns died after being swept into a drain pipe during a flash flood July 31.
