BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD (WBFF) — Sources confirmed that 16-year-old Keith James Jr., who is charged with the murders of Gigi Myrie and her 9-year-old brother Steve Allen, has been indicted by a grand jury.
James Jr. is accused of fatally shooting Myrie and Allen inside their home in Gwynn Oak on July 7.
Baltimore County Police announced his arrest last week, on July 22.
The 16-year-old is facing multiple charges including two counts of first degree murder, and three weapons related offenses.
The following day, during his bond hearing James appeared by video inside Baltimore County District Court. There, a judge kept his bail at no bond, and denied the defense attorney’s request that James be transferred to a juvenile facility.
According to court documents, investigators linked James Jr. to the double murder using witness statements, cell phone data, surveillance footage, ballistic evidence recovered, and James’ statement to police.
Investigators said during their interview with James he told detectives he and Gigi had been talking for a couple of months.
According to court documents, a witness informed investigators that James told Giovanna he would have to kill her if she messed around with any other guys.
In the documents, investigators went on to note they searched Giovanna’s cell phone records and found a text message that supported the witness’s statement.
That witness also reportedly told investigators they spoke with Giovanna approximately two hours before the murders, and she advised Keith was supposed to come over to her residence at 4 p.m.
Gigi and Steve were laid to rest last week at St. Casimir Church in Canton.
Their family released a statement that read in part, “Steve and Gigi were deeply loved by so many, and their love, laughter, and beautiful spirits will forever remain in our hearts.”
James’ indictment by a grand jury now sends the case to Baltimore County Circuit Court.
James will remain in custody until his next scheduled court appearance.
