WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Trump and first lady Melania Trump are scheduled to attend the Freedom 250 Grand Prix on Sunday in downtown Washington. Roads downtown have been turned into an IndyCar racecourse for the event and are the final event in the city to close out the celebration of the nation’s 250th anniversary.
The Freedom 250 Grand Prix is the major finale, closing out a summer full of events that also featured a state fair exhibition, an Ultimate Fighting Championship match and a marathon Independence Day parade, concert and fireworks display.
For the race, the Trump administration has planned a two-day weekend event, with more flyovers, fireworks and an honorary presidential lap of the course. The main racing event will feature 25 drivers zipping around for 147 laps, crisscrossing the National Mall and around some of the nation’s most iconic buildings.
Race organizers have handed out about 140,000 tickets to spectators for the weekend event.
