President Donald Trump is expected to make an announcement on American nuclear innovation from the White House on Friday afternoon.

On Wednesday, the Trump administration said it would evaluate putting nuclear energy projects in federal waters, according to a Reuters report. The administration is aiming to expand domestic energy production and speed up deployment of “advanced” nuclear technologies.

According to the outlet, the Marine Minerals Administration said it signed an agreement with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to coordinate oversight of potential offshore nuclear projects.

The Marine Minerals Administration oversees development on the United States’ Outer Continental Shelf.

At this time, the White House has not shared any details concerning President Trump’s specific announcement, but he is scheduled to speak from the Oval Office at 3 p.m. EST.

On Wednesday, the Department of Energy announced the first projects selected under the Genesis Mission Request for Applications (RFA) as part of President Trump’s Genesis Mission to accelerate AI-driven scientific discovery.

The nearly 300 projects selected will address energy, scientific, and engineering challenges, including nuclear energy, critical mineral extraction, intelligent chip design, and commercial fusion energy.

The largest project selected is a three-year, $60 million investment in nuclear energy that will harness AI to help deliver nuclear facilities faster and safer while cutting operating costs to provide Americans with affordable, reliable, and secure energy, the DOE announced.
