ST. MARY’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Waldorf, Maryland, man was sentenced to 30 years in prison, with 21 years of active incarceration, for sexually abusing a minor, the St. Mary’s County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Monday.
Terrod Lamar Branson, 40, was convicted in connection with the abuse, which prosecutors said occurred between 2023 and 2025.
In announcing the sentence, State’s Attorney Jaymi Sterling said it’s the justice system’s responsibility to protect vulnerable victims in cases like this.

“Few crimes are more disturbing and devastating than the sexual abuse of a child. These offenses shatter a child’s sense of safety, betray their trust, and inflict lasting trauma,” said Sterling. “Every child deserves to be safe. Crimes like this target some of the most vulnerable members of our community and protecting children is among the criminal justice system’s most important responsibilities.”
Branson was also placed on lifetime sexual offender supervision and is required to register as a sex offender for life.

The Maryland Sentencing Guidelines recommended between 10 and 21 years of active incarceration. The court imposed a sentence at the top of that range.
