WASHINGTON (TNND) — New footage of a missile hitting a compound near an Iranian elementary school appears to add to evidence suggesting the U.S. was responsible for the Feb. 28 strike that killed more than 160 people.
The video was shared by Iran’s semiofficial Mehr News agency on Sunday and is the first to show missiles striking a building adjacent to a Revolutionary Guard base in Minab, Iran — near an elementary school — sending a huge dark plume of smoke into the air.
Analysts who reviewed the footage say the munition matches a U.S. weapon.

Sam Lair, a research associate at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies (CNS), explained to CNN that the munition appears to be consistent with a U.S. Tomahawk Land Attack Missile (TLAM).
“First, it fits the visual characteristics of a TLAM. The cruciform shape with centrally mounted wings and a tailkit at the back,” Lair said. “Second, the video was taken about 250 meters from the likely impact point. That means the munition has to be large. This rules out other munitions in the U.S. stockpile with similar visual characteristics like the GBU-69B.”
U.S. Central Command previously released photos of the USS Spruance, part of the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group, firing a Tomahawk missile on Feb. 28 in support of Operation Epic Fury.
Gen. Dan Caine, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, also said at a news conference last week that the “first shooters at sea were Tomahawks unleashed by the United States Navy.”
Asked aboard Air Force One on Saturday whether the U.S. was responsible, President Donald Trump denied involvement and instead blamed Iran.
“No, in my opinion, based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran.” Trump added that Iran is “very inaccurate” with its munitions.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth added that the U.S. is investigating, but said, “the only side that targets civilians is Iran.”
