Don’t make the mistake of underestimating your enemies.
While some conservatives have been eager to dismiss the Democratic Socialists of America as a fringe nuisance, and one easily beatable in elections. That’s a mistake many will come to regret. Ben Domenech, an opinion writer at the Daily Wire pointed out something very real: the DSA is tapping into the same kind of voter frustration that powered Trump’s rise in 2016, from New York to California, by presenting itself as the answer to a political class people no longer trust.

Their solutions may be a recycled playbook of failed and often tyrannical ideas, but to a generation that never had to live through communism, they can sound new, compassionate, and even overdue. That’s what makes them dangerous.
This is an important point and one I’ve tried to make repeatedly: these people aren’t crazy, they are intentionally selling a vile failed red-green ideology and a fundamentally anti-American bill of goods to a frustrated electorate that just wants change. https://t.co/niv1wabXuv pic.twitter.com/xtaZyESU0d

“I’ve been on this air quite a lot, talking about these wannabe red diaper babies who we’ve got out here. And you know, it is—I don’t think it really has come across to people how disgusting this actually is,” Domenech said. “Those young voters right there, they’re not being sold something new. They’re being sold something very old and failed.”
“There are a bunch of people from New York and L.A. who fly in and gather around a pool to sell people on the losing side of the Nixon-Khrushchev kitchen debate and present it as if it’s something innovative and new, instead of the actual failed communist policies that it actually is,” he continued. “And that bill of goods is being sold on a daily basis to young Americans who do desire change. They are anti-establishment. You’re not wrong about that. But the change that they are being sold is something that will doom this economy and doom this country, and it’s one of the most anti-American things that I’ve ever seen. And I think that these people, these twitch Trotskyites, they should just, I’m sorry, leave this country if you hate it so much.”

The DSA echoes the lessons of nearly every political revolution on earth, and history is not kind to movements that mistake upheaval for progress. People are rarely taught that only a handful of revolutions truly succeeded, and among them, America’s was the exception.
France, Iran, Venezuela, and so many others were driven by a desperate hunger for change, any change, and that longing too often opened the door to tyranny, corruption, violence, and the very abuses they claimed to be overthrowing. Their revolutions delivered transformation, but not the kind that preserved liberty. They skipped the hard part: building something better after the old order fell.
Conservatives have always stood for the hard part: building something better on the other side of change. The DSA doesn’t have to do that, and that’s what makes them dangerous. They can toss out a jumble of buzzwords that seemingly have little to do with socialism, from support for Palestine, to transgenderism, to cries about stolen land, and call for the concentration of government power.
And what they’re selling may never work, but I can promise you, it will sure as hell be an engine of change.
