WASHINGTON (7News) β A new national report is offering a detailed look at hospital safety across the country, measuring how well facilities prevent infections, medical errors, and other forms of patient harm.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades β released twice a year β evaluate hospitals using up to 31 evidence-based measures, including infection rates, surgical safety, medication systems, and patient experience data.
In the DMV region, the latest results show a mixed picture: several Maryland hospitals earn top marks, Virginia ranks among the stronger states nationally, and hospitals in Washington, D.C., are included in the broader grading system.

ABOUT THE REPORT
The Leapfrog Group says its biannual Hospital Safety Grades are designed to help patients make informed healthcare decisions. The rankings are based on up to 31 safety measures and are considered one of the most widely used national hospital safety report cards in the U.S.
Officials also note the grades do not guarantee individual patient outcomes but reflect systemic safety performance.
