BALTIMORE (WBFF) — After a calmer Sail250 weekend in Fells Point, Baltimore police and city leaders are hoping the same momentum carries into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Officials say a public safety plan is in place for the waterfront neighborhood, which has seen recent concerns over large crowds, disorderly conduct and shootings.
Last weekend, a heavier police presence during Sail250 appeared to help keep the area calmer compared to previous weekends. Now, with holiday crowds expected, residents and business owners are watching to see if that strategy works again.
Police have not released exact details of the plan. In the past, efforts have included a large, multi-agency law enforcement presence during peak weekend hours.

Police Commissioner Richard Worley previously said the behavior seen in Fells Point would not be tolerated in other parts of the city and that police would address it.
Mayor Brandon Scott has also said the city will not publicly discuss operational specifics, saying officials do not want to reveal plans to the people they are trying to stop.
For business owners, safety is a priority — but some say enforcement measures, including street closures, can also make it harder for customers and delivery drivers to reach shops.

The holiday weekend is expected to test whether the city’s public safety strategy can continue to keep Fells Point calm while allowing people to celebrate and businesses to operate.
