3 men behind violent crime spree in Maryland, DC sentenced 2 years after arrest

WASHINGTON (7News) — The three men who committed robberies and carjackings, 13 incidents in total, in Maryland and Washington, D.C., will each spend more than a decade behind bars.

Kanard Bishop, 28, Edward Leroy Brown, 26, and Khalil Boyd, 20, were all sentenced on Wednesday in U.S. District Court, according to U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro’s Office.

Bishop was sentenced to 15 years in prison followed by five years of supervised release. Brown was sentenced to 12 and a half years, while Boyd was sentenced to 12 years.

The sentencing comes after all three men pleaded guilty on March 26 to charges of conspiracy to interfere with interstate commerce by robbery and to using and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, according to a news release.

Records show the trio’s crime spree started in February 2024 with a robbery at a convenience store in Capitol Heights, Maryland. They then held up a nearby McDonald’s before taking off.

What followed were multiple carjackings and robberies at restaurants and mini marts.

The crime spree ultimately ended on March 28, records show, when the men held up a GameStop in District Heights. Bishop and Brown tried to run off when police arrived, but Brown was shot by an officer and both men were cuffed.

Boyd was waiting for the other two in a stolen Dodge Challenger. He carjacked another vehicle and crashed into two police cruisers before he was ultimately arrested.
