A Baltimore man was sentenced to 11 years in prison in federal court on Tuesday in connection to drug trafficking and gun charges.

Alonzo Plenty, 35, was sentenced to 11 years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for possession of a gun by a prohibited person, possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances, and possession of a gun in the furtherance of drug trafficking.

According to the evidence presented at Plenty’s trial, on March 5, 2024, authorities observed Plenty walking near the 800 block of Pontiac Avenue in Baltimore while “displaying the characteristics” of an armed person.

When Plenty noticed officials watching him, he fled on foot down an alley.

Law enforcement agents chased Plenty, and during that pursuit, they saw Plenty attempt to discard a gun.

Authorities were able to recover that gun and arrest Plenty.

During his arrest, officials found 32 individual baggies of cocaine base, 26 gel caps containing a counterfeit controlled substance, two cell phones, and $3,255 in cash.

Officials said the recovered gun was reported stolen from a Baltimore Police Department officer in 2006.

Plenty was taken to the Baltimore Central Booking and Intake Center, and during a routine strip search, Plenty attempted to flee from the facility.

During that unsuccessful escape attempt, authorities said that Plenty attempted to rid himself of a clear plastic bag into a holding cell that he had removed from his underwear.

Officers were able to recover that bag, which contained 50 buprenorphine strips, or Suboxone, which is a Schedule III controlled substance.

Now, Plenty will serve prison time.
