SUN: No middle school sports as Harford students return Monday

Harford County Public Schools students return to school Monday with no middle school sports and fewer teachers.

During a contentious budget cycle earlier this year, the Harford school board had to solve a $12.5 million deficit, and middle school sports were cut. HCPS ultimately added one teaching position for this school year, though 19 others were cut.

As of Aug. 21, all teacher vacancies had been filled, the school system said; however, other positions had openings as of Wednesday, including 25 paraeducators, 15 inclusion helpers and 25 custodians.

Although middle school sports were cut, intramural sports stayed and are available outside the school day for any students interested.
