It has been nearly three decades since a 13-year-old girl’s body was discovered in Woodlawn, and homicide detectives are still searching for answers in the case, according to Baltimore County Police.

On May 12, 1999, officers were called to the area of Kafern Drive after children saw something wrapped in a sheet.

“It smelled like a dead animal,” according to statements written by children walking to school that day. “My friend uncovered the body, and I don’t know if it was a man or a woman.”

Investigators arrived and found a partially decomposed body wrapped in a blanket and towel in a wooded area behind Belmont Park Apartments in Woodlawn.

Medical Examiners later identified the body as 13-year-old Sarah Forrester.

Her death was ruled a homicide, and detectives said she has been stabbed and severely beaten.

Months earlier, Sarah has been reported missing from a group home in Catonsville.

Despite the passage of time, questions remain about what happened to Sarah in the weeks before her body was found.
