FOREST HEIGHTS, Md. (7News) — What started as a search for a stolen vehicle in Forest Heights, Md., ended with a crash involving a police cruiser and a separate vehicle that had children inside, according to officials with the town’s police.
A police officer near Livingston Road and Crisfield Drive at around 12:30 p.m. was searching the area for a reported stolen vehicle when an unrelated vehicle suddenly stopped in front of the police cruiser, officials said.
Officials said the cruiser struck the civilian vehicle and both left the roadway into the yard of a nearby home. While the civilian vehicle struck two parked cars before stopping, officials said the cruiser collided with the foundation of the home.
No residents in the home were injured, but the house was deemed unsafe until officials can complete a further review, officials said.
Four people inside the civilian car, including the driver and three children, were taken to the hospital as a precaution, though there were no serious injuries reported. The officer was also evaluated, and all are expected to recover.
The stolen vehicle was not found during the search, and police said an investigation is ongoing.
