Barnes & Noble returns to Baltimore County after nearly a decade, opening in Timonium

A major bookseller is making a return to Baltimore County just in time for the upcoming holiday shopping season.

Barnes & Noble will open its new Timonium bookstore at 130 W. Ridgely Road in the Lutherville Station shopping center when doors open at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11.

The store fills the space once used by the RH Outlet and, before that, by Borders.

This new Barnes & Noble brings the bookseller back to the area nearly a decade after closing its popular Towson location. The 17,500-square-foot store features books along with toys, games, vinyl records, DVDs, magazines, greeting cards, stationery and a Barnes & Noble Café. Family-friendly festivities, including appearances by the costume character Corduroy and themed story time events, are planned for the opening weekend.

During the Grand Opening, Barnes & Noble is offering exclusive deals, including $50 off any NOOK device and 40 percent savings on all DVD, Blu-ray and 4k Ultra HD movies. Premium and Rewards Members will earn double stamps on all purchases made during the event, while new customers are encouraged to sign up for membership benefits.

We could not be more pleased to make our return to this wonderful community,” said James Daunt, CEO of Barnes & Noble. “We have long enjoyed the support of readers in the Towson area and are delighted to have a new home nearby in Timonium. We look forward to welcoming old friends and new customers alike.

The company is experiencing strong sales and sustained growth by giving local booksellers more control of their stores, reversing more than 15 years of declining store numbers. The Timonium location has been designed to combine the atmosphere of an independent bookstore with the resources of a national chain.

“For me, this is about more than opening another Barnes & Noble,” said Store Manager Sheldon Kulbicki. “I remember what it was like to shop at the Towson store and I know how much people have missed having a Barnes & Noble here. Getting the opportunity to help bring it back and create new memories for customers is what makes this opening so exciting.”
