Crash in Prince George’s County shuts down serval lanes on I-95

A highway safety patrol worker was killed Saturday morning when he was struck by a vehicle while setting up traffic cones at a crash scene on the Capital Beltway, according to the Maryland State Police.

Police said the incident happened around 11:45 a.m. on the inner loop near Exit 4 for Saint Barnabas Road in the Marlow Heights-Temple Hills area of Prince George’s County.

Investigators said the original crash scene involved two vehicles, prompting emergency response personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration to respond for traffic control and lane closures.

Authorities believe the highway safety patrol worker was outside of his vehicle, placing cones along the roadway, when he was hit by a passing vehicle.

Emergency medical personnel pronounced the worker dead at the scene.

The victim’s identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
