Firefighters rescue injured crew member from historic ship in Baltimore harbor

Firefighters rescued an injured crew member from aboard the S.S. John W. Brown on Wednesday morning, according to the Baltimore City Fire Department.

On June 24, around 8:00 a.m., crews were dispatched to 4600 Newgate Avenue following reports of an injured crew member aboard the historic ship.

Upon arrival, responders determined that the patient’s location inside the vessel would require additional rescue resources.

Personnel from the department’s Special Operations Command were called to the scene to assist with the extraction.

Rescuers assessed the patient and carefully packaged the individual for removal.

The operation involved transporting the patient up four decks within the ship before reaching a suitable extraction point.

The crew member was successfully removed from the vessel and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Officials have not released information regarding the extent of the injuries or the individual’s condition.
