FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A girl and a man were thrown from a car, reportedly stolen from D.C., at the end of a car chase in Fauquier County, according to county deputies.
The 19-year-old man, who drove the red Chevrolet Camaro that had been stolen from D.C. and carried Maryland tags from a stolen Toyota sedan, reportedly had warrants out of Prince William County, officials said.
Both the teen and the man, later identified as Kevin Velasquez of Annapolis, Md., were injured in the crash and hospitalized.
Fauquier County deputies said they were made aware of a stolen vehicle on Marsh Road near Bealeton with the Maryland tags, and a chase began after officers tried to pull the vehicle over for a traffic stop.
Officers said the driver went north on Opal before turning north on James Madison Highway, where deputies deployed stop sticks that popped a tire on the Camaro.
Once the chase passed Warranton, deputies lost sight of the Camaro after it drove through red lights at the intersection of Cedar Run Drive and Dumfries Road. Skid marks were found along Breezy Drive, deputies found the Camaro had crossed the lanes and crashed off the side of the road.
Both the driver and the girl were treated at the scene and taken to Fairfax Hospital for injuries.
Valesquez faces several misdemeanor traffic charges and felony charges for eluding and abuse or neglect of a child. More charges are expected.
