‘I’m going to do it again’: Trump jokes he will run for president in 2028

WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump again joked that he plans to run for president in 2028, reviving talk of a third term despite the Constitution’s two-term limit.

He made the comment during a speech at the rescheduled White House Correspondents’ Association dinner on Friday night. Near the end of his hourlong address, Trump put on a red hat reading “Trump 2028” and told the crowd he had a “scoop.”

“I won three times,” Trump said, as he suggested he beat former President Joe Biden in what he described as the “rigged” 2020 election.

Now, I’m going to do it again,” he added. “It should be easy. I’m getting very good at running for president.”

Throughout his speech, Trump mixed jokes with sharp criticism of journalists, political rivals, and celebrities, while reflecting on his often-contentious relationship with the media.

He also spoke about the war with Iran and other administration priorities before ending with the “Trump 2028” hat and his declaration about another campaign.

The dinner was rescheduled after an April shooting disrupted the original event and forced its postponement. The gathering was held under heightened security at Washington’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel.

Trump’s comments renewed questions about the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which bars anyone from being elected president more than twice.

The White House did not immediately clarify whether the president was making a serious announcement or joking with the audience.
