Laurel man killed after motor vehicle crash in West River

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, Md. (WBFF) — A 34-year-old man died from a motor vehicle crash Thursday in West River, according to Anne Arundel County police.

On September 3, at around 3:05 p.m., officers responded to the single-vehicle crash involving a commercial motor vehicle on Swamp Circle Road near Muddy Creek Road.

Investigators learned that a Freightliner FL70 was heading north on Swamp Circle Road when the operator failed to drive around a curve in the roadway, causing the truck to completely leave the roadway and strike several wooden poles, police said.

Officials said the vehicle then traveled back across the roadway and hit multiple trees, causing the driver to be ejected.

The Anne Arundel County Fire Department responded to the scene to provide treatment to the driver, identified as Keith Whitley Haines of Laurel, Maryland, who was pronounced deceased by authorities.

The Anne Arundel County Police Crash Reconstruction Team is continuing to investigate this incident.
