Man charged with attempted murder in shooting of Baltimore County police officer

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD (WBFF) — A man has been charged with attempted murder in connection to the shooting of Baltimore County Police Officer.

Shaka Kamara, 38, is facing multiple charges, including attempted first degree murder, assault, and numerous gun charges, including possessing a gun with a felony conviction.

According to charging documents, at 8:50 a.m. on June 7, police responded to the 900 block of Milford Mill Road in Pikesville for a report of an indecent exposure at the park.

Upon arrival, police met with a man who said he had been riding his bike along the trail when a man, later identified as Kamara, exposed himself.

A short time later, Officer P. Catalfamo and two other police officer located Kamara, who matched the description of the suspect.

Kamar proceeded to flee on foot, and during a chase with police, he stopped along the train and assumed a stance while attempting to conceal the gun he possessed.

When Officer Catalfamo approached, Kamara turned and shot the officer.

Kamara proceeded to exchanged shots with a second officer, and when he attempted to flee again, he encountered a man and woman that were walking on the trail.

Police said that Kamara proceeded to rob the man of a gun he was carrying.

Around 9:15 a.m., more police arrived on scene.

Unaware of the robbery, an officer approached Kamara and the victim asking for the whereabouts of the injured officer.

Authorities said at that point, Kamara began shooting at the officer with the stolen gun.

The officer returned fire and struck Kamara.

During this exchange, the robbery victim was also shot.

Police rendered aid to the officer, robbery victim, and suspect. All three people were later transported to hospitals with gunshot wounds.

Now, Kamara is facing charges and is being held without bond.
