LANDOVER, Md. (7News) — The man wanted for the 2020 murder of 22-year-old Andre Cox Jr. in Landover is now in custody.
The Prince George’s County Police Department (PGPD) said 34-year-old Dayvon Gordon was arrested in Washington, D.C., Tuesday evening.

On Oct. 27, 2020, officers responded to the 3200 block of 75th Avenue for a shooting. The victim was located outside suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and died a short time later.

An arrest warrant for Gordon was obtained shortly after the murder, but investigators spent years searching for him.
Last month, the PGPD, the U.S. Marshals Service, and the victim’s parents made a public plea for information in the search for Gordon.

Following media coverage, a tipster who saw the family’s plea contacted authorities, helping lead investigators to his location. The PGPD’s Fugitive Unit, part of the U.S. Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested Gordon with assistance from the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).
“In addition to our tremendous law enforcement partners, the PGPD is also appreciative of members of the media and the community for assisting us by sharing information on our years-long search for Gordon. It took each component to finally bring this murder suspect into custody. Hopefully this arrest brings some comfort to Andre’s still grieving family,” said PGPD Chief George Nader.
Cox Jr.’s parents spoke during the arrest announcement, saying they are thankful their son will “be able to rest at peace.”
“We’ll be able to get through day by day. We cannot say that it’s closure for us, even when we go through the process, it still won’t be closure. However, we’ll be able to get through this day by day. Dre’s father and I are both Godly people, so we know we’ll get through this with God. And of course with the help of, you all, media. Media, I must, must, must say thank you, because on June 30th you made this happen for us, and I gotta say thank you, thank you to,” the victim’s mother said.
Gordon is charged with first and second degree murder and related charges. He remains in custody in D.C., pending extradition to Prince George’s County.
