MARYLAND (WBFF) — New data revealed that Maryland was ranked the 24th-worst state for packages to go missing, according to a study by the drop-shipping platform AutoDS.
The study assessed average search volumes for over 150 keywords related to missing packages, including terms like “USPS lost mail,” “Amazon package stolen,” “FedEx missing package,” and “missing mail,” which were then used to determine which states experience the highest likelihood of packages going missing or being stolen.
To ensure an accurate comparison, the monthly search volume was compared to each state’s population, and then the final rankings were sorted from highest to lowest average monthly searches per 100,000 residents.
Maryland placed 24th with an average of 57.56 searches per 100,000 residents, totaling 3,558 searches for its population of 6,180,253.
The report noted that USPS was the most frequently searched, with an average of 34.91 searches per 100,000 residents, followed by Amazon with 5.57 searches and UPS with 4.99 searches.
Ranking of states where packages are most likely to go missing
The ranking comes as Baltimore has continued to deal with porch piracy in recent years.
In October 2025, FOX45 News reported on a suspected serial porch pirate in the Federal Hill neighborhood.
In November 2025, Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley also fell victim to a porch pirate.
During the holidays in December 2025, Baltimore City Sheriff Sam Cogen formed the Neighborhood Services Unit to roll out a GPS decor package program, placing fake deliveries around the city to track thieves as they attempted to take the fake packages. The effort resulted in several arrests.
