MPD lieutenant arrested, facing child porn charge in Maryland

A lieutenant with the Metropolitan Police Department is off the job after he was arrested in Maryland on child porn and child solicitation charges, according to MPD.

Matthew Mahl was arrested in Harford County on Tuesday, court records show.

Mahl has been placed on administrative leave while the case is investigated, according to MPD.

Mayor Bowser comments on the MPD lieutenant who was arrested in Maryland on child porn and child solicitation charges, according to MPD.

“The allegations in this case are extremely disturbing, and in direct contrast to the values of the Metropolitan Police Department. MPD’s Internal Affairs Division will investigate violations of MPD policy once the criminal investigation concludes,” the department said in a statement.

The department added that it was not aware of the investigation until his arrest.
