Ocean City officials ask for help after illegal fireworks burn protected beach grass

Ocean City police are hunting for the suspect whose illegal fireworks ignited a massive dune fire, wiping out an area of protected beach grass.

The fire broke out around 9:21 p.m. Saturday in the area of 116th and 117th Streets, the Ocean City Fire Department said.

“Dune grass plays a critical role in protecting our coastline from erosion and storm impacts,” the fire department said.
