Residents react after 18-year-old woman fatally stabbed in southwest Baltimore

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — A young woman was stabbed to death in southwest Baltimore over the weekend, and police are searching for who killed her.

Baltimore Police have not yet released the victim’s identity. Investigators initially said she was 19-years-old, but later confirmed she was 18.

Police responded just after 8 p.m. Saturday to West Baltimore Street near South Hilton Street, where officers found the 18-year-old suffering from stab wounds. She was taken to Shock Trauma, where she was later pronounced dead.

No arrests have been announced.

Police are looking for a suspect or suspects, and Donny Moses, a Baltimore Police Department spokesman, said “the investigation remains open and ongoing and detectives have not conclusively determined who all were involved in the fatal stabbing.”

Some neighbors said they had heard the incident involved young people.

“I didn’t see anything, but I heard it was a bunch of young folks,” Michael Brown, a resident, said.

Brown said the possibility that juveniles could be connected is troubling.

It’s troublesome to hear young folks out here acting like that,” he said. “They’re kids, man. Kids that find it easy to kill, it’s not good…children, finding it easy to kill.”

Initial reports included in police dispatch audio indicated officers were trying to determine whether those involved were adults or juveniles. Dispatch audio also described a “group of girls beating up one girl” with “10 individuals involved,” though police said investigators have not confirmed who was involved.

Residents said the violence involving juveniles has left them frustrated and concerned.

“It keeps happening over and over,” Kim Barnes, a resident, said. “It’s very frustrating. It is. I mean, you know, with these killings and everything, you know, and we’re not even, this is our future. You know, these kids out here, this is their futures.”

Brown also said, “There are no consequences with children (who commit violent crimes).”

He added, “It continues. And that’s what the lay-away plan to prison is. No consequences. By the time they’re 18, they have habits of breaking the law.”
