FELLS POINT (WBFF) — Baltimore Police officials told The Baltimore Sun they will continue using weekend roadblocks and checkpoint-style traffic controls in Fells Point, doubling down on one of the city’s most visible responses to “teen takeovers” and crime this summer.
“These enforcement strategies will continue to be used as needed based on intelligence, crime trends, and public safety concerns,” Baltimore Police spokesperson Lindsey Eldridge said. “We will continually evaluate our tactics to ensure they remain effective while minimizing disruptions to the public.”
While police say the measures are necessary to disrupt illegal activity and protect residents, visitors and businesses, some City Council members warn that checkpoints cannot become a permanent feature of a neighborhood that depends on easy access for restaurants, bars and small businesses.
Eldridge said the department remains committed to combating takeover events.
