MARYLAND (WBFF) — As of midnight, more than 12,000 BGE customers were still in the dark, waiting for damaged power poles and electrical wires to be repaired. And for some, it may be another 24 hours before the lights come back on.
As of this morning, Harford County had the most outages, reporting 2,548. Baltimore County was right behind, with 2,157 households in need of power. The biggest project in Baltimore County, however, is finished, after work crews completed an operation that stretched into the night.
Just as thousands of central Maryland residents were beginning to recover from the Fourth of July weekend storms Monday afternoon, about 16,000 more Baltimore County customers lost power Monday after BGE shut off their electricity to complete emergency repairs on damaged power lines.
The outage began at 3 p.m. in the Essex and Middle River areas, where BGE crews needed to replace damaged utility poles and electrical lines along Eastern Boulevard. Company officials said the work could not be done safely while the equipment remained energized.
