Swimmer who went missing in Potomac River identified

The man who went missing while swimming in the Potomac River off the Bill Goat Trail has been identified by Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.

Nazir Bell, 20, was last seen with friends swimming just off the Billy Goat Trail Section A on Sunday evening, according to a news release.

Bell is a student at Towson University, according to the release.

Officials said their reports indicated that Bell had been separated from a group while in the water, but searchers could not find him on Sunday before darkness fell.

They picked up the efforts again on Monday, but in the evening, MCFRS said they finished searching for him.
