Drivers in downtown Baltimore should expect a busy weekend of road closures, lane restrictions and transit diversions tied to events, home games and scheduled roadway work from Friday, Sept. 4, through Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026.
The Baltimore City Department of Transportation said all activities are weather permitting and encouraged motorists to download the Waze.com app for live detour navigation. DOT said it is not responsible for providing status updates.
Road closures and parking restrictions will be in effect for Charm City Live, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, from noon to 9 p.m. at War Memorial Plaza.
In preparation for the event, DOT said the following closures will be in effect from 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, with detours and parking restrictions in effect:
– Holliday Street closed from Pleasant to Baltimore streets
– Saratoga Street closed from Guilford Avenue to Holliday Street (access to Breco Condominiums will be maintained)
– Lexington Street closed from Guilford Avenue to N. Gay Street
– Dickey Place closed from Guilford Avenue to Holliday Street (access to DPW parking area will be maintained from Guilford Avenue only)
– Fayette Street, eastbound and westbound, closed from President Street to Guilford Avenue. The exit ramp to westbound Fayette Street from the southbound Jones Falls Expressway will also be closed during this time.
– Gay Street closed from E. Baltimore to E. Saratoga streets
DOT urged motorists in the area to watch for changing traffic patterns and use alternate routes to avoid delays.
Temporary MDOT MTA Local Bus diversions will be in effect because of the closures. Riders are encouraged to visit the MDOT MTA website for additional information.
For Baltimore Orioles home games at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, DOT said road and lane closures will be implemented:
– Friday, Sept. 4, starting at 4 p.m.
– Saturday, Sept. 5, at 4 p.m.
– Sunday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m.
Closures include:
– Hamburg Street closed from Leadenhall to Paca streets
– The northbound service lane closed next to M&T Bank Stadium
– Camden Street closed from Paca to Howard streets
Temporary traffic modifications will be in effect Saturday for the Altra Charles Street 12 Footrace, which kicks off at 7:30 a.m. in Baltimore County along Kenilworth Drive in Towson and ends in Baltimore City at Riverside Park.
Participants are expected to enter Baltimore City on N. Charles Street at Gittings Avenue at approximately 8 a.m. The route heads south on N. Charles Street, left on Lee Street, right on Light Street, and bears left onto eastbound Key Highway. From there, runners turn right on Webster Street, left on Fort Avenue, right on Boyle Street, right on Heath Street, right on Covington Street, left on Randall Stret, left on Johnson Street, and left into Riverside Park to finish. Participants are expected to complete the course by approximately 11 a.m.
DOT said Charles Street will be closed Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026, between Gittings Avenue and Lee Street from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., with detours and parking restrictions in effect. One lane of traffic will also be coned off for runners along the race route wherever possible, with parking restrictions in effect.
DOT said temporary traffic stops will occur for participant safety and warned those stops will cause delays. Motorists are urged to plan ahead by modifying travel times Saturday morning, allowing extra travel time and using alternate routes.
Temporary MDOT MTA Local Bus diversions will be in effect because of the road closures, and riders are directed to the MDOT MTA website for details.
Bus diversions will also be in effect along the Charm City Circulator’s Purple, Banner and Cherry routes on Saturday until 11 a.m. Circulator riders are encouraged to visit the Charm City Circulator website or download the TripShot app for additional information.
DOT said temporary lane closures will be implemented near CFG Bank Arena for arena events.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, and Sunday, Sept. 6, lane closures will be in effect each night from approximately 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. the following morning:
– Howard Street left lane closure from Camden to Pratt streets
– Lombard Street right lane closure from Hopkins Place to Howard Street
– Baltimore Street left lane closure from Howard Street to Park Avenue
– Pratt Street left lane closure from Eutaw to Howard streets
Motorists in the area Saturday and Sunday evenings are urged to watch for changing traffic patterns and use alternate routes.
DOT also announced lane closures on the Jones Falls Expressway/I-83 for cleaning and tree trimming.
On Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026:
– I-83 northbound right lane closures from Madison Street to Coldspring Lane from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. (cleaning and tree trimming). The Madison Street ramp will also be closed during this time.
On Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026:
– I-83 north and southbound left lane closures from Fayette Street to the city/county line from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. (cleaning).
Baltimore Farmers’ Market closures Sunday morning
Traffic modifications will also be in effect Sunday for the Baltimore Farmers’ Market, held under the Jones Falls Expressway along Saratoga Street between Holliday and Gay streets.
On Sunday, Sept. 6, 2026, DOT said the following street and lane closures will be implemented from approximately 6 a.m. to 2 p.m., with parking restrictions in effect:
– Holliday Street closure from E. Pleasant to E. Saratoga streets
– Pleasant Street closure at Holliday Street
– Hillen Street center lane closure between Front Street and Fallsway
