Woman pleads guilty in 2025 Silver Spring crash that killed 85-year-old

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A woman could face up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday to charges stemming from a 2025 crash that killed an 85-year-old woman and hurt another person in Silver Spring.

Jesica Argueta, 23, of Silver Spring, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter by gross negligence and second-degree assault, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Prosecutors said Argueta crashed into the victims’ SUV around 7:44 a.m. Aug. 7, 2025, at Randolph Road and Sherwood Forest Drive.

Argueta was driving a Toyota GR86 at nearly 85 mph in a 40 mph zone while weaving through morning traffic before crashing into the victims’ SUV as they drove home from church.

Josephine Gieske, 85, died from her injuries after being taken to the hospital. The driver of the SUV was hurt but survived.

Argueta is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 16.
