MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (7News) — Two people are in custody early Monday morning after Montgomery County, Maryland, police attempted a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle connected to an armed carjacking in Washington, D.C., officials said.
Montgomery County police and Gaithersburg police responded to the area of Quince Orchard Road and Route 28 around 5 a.m. after D.C. police reported the vehicle had been taken in an armed carjacking.
According to a Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) incident report, D.C. officers were first to respond when a victim reported an armed carjacking near Oak Drive and Cherry Street SE. A police report stated that the victim said he picked up two people in Silver Spring, Maryland, in his red Toyota Camry after one suspect offered to pay him $70 for a ride.
The victim told MPD he was directed to pull into a parking lot behind 1051 Oak Drive SE. Once there, one of the suspects sitting in the back seat allegedly struck him twice in the head with a handgun, while another suspect pulled a rifle from a backpack and pointed it at him.
D.C. police said the suspects took the victim’s belongings and ordered him out of the vehicle. The victim was taken to a hospital by ambulance.
The stolen vehicle was later found near Quince Orchard Road and Route 28 in Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) said two male suspects were taken into custody after officers attempted a traffic stop, leading to a brief pursuit before the stolen vehicle crashed.

One suspect was taken to a hospital after being tased, and police recovered a gun at the scene.
Officials said no officers or bystanders were injured.
A MCPD spokesperson said the suspects’ ages are not yet known and more information will be released later.
