MIAMI, Fla. (CBS12) — Five people were killed Sunday when a Prime Air cargo plane overran a runway at Miami International Airport, striking multiple vehicles and catching fire.
In addition to the fatalities, Miami Mayor Eileen Higgins confirmed five others were injured during a news conference.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said more than 60 units responded to the crash near the airport at approximately 2 p.m.
Firefighters arrived to find the aircraft on fire with heavy flames and smoke showing. Crews are working to extinguish the blaze and assess patients.
Miami International Airport said Prime Air Flight 7598 overran the airport’s diagonal runway and became disabled at the northwest end of the airport.

All MIA runways and taxiways are currently closed, and a full ground stop is in effect.
Passengers scheduled to fly out of MIA Sunday are urged to check directly with their airline for the latest flight status before heading to the airport.
Due to the first responder presence, NW 67th Avenue between NW 25th Street and NW 36th Street is currently closed, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
Officials have not yet released information on the number or severity of any injuries.
