A man killed his partner and their child at a home daycare in Minneapolis before taking his own life on Wednesday, according to authorities.

Hopkins Police Chief Brent Johnson said six other children were inside the daycare at the time of the attack, but were not hurt. The children were safely reunited with their parents, he said.

Johnson said police were called to the home after another parent arrived to drop off a child and saw the attack. That parent contacted police, prompting an emergency response to the home.

Investigators believe the two adults who died owned and operated the daycare, according to Johnson.

Authorities did not immediately identify the man, his partner, or their child. Johnson also declined to disclose how they were killed or what type of weapon, if any, was used.

Police did not immediately provide information about a possible motive or describe the circumstances leading up to the killings.

Investigators remained at the scene as authorities worked to determine what happened.

The investigation remains ongoing, said police.
