BPD says outside agency investigating after suspension of Deputy Commissioner

BALTIMORE (WBFF) — Baltimore Police confirm an outside agency is investigating what has led to the suspension of Deputy Commissioner Brian Nadeau.

The Department confirmed the suspension Sept. 15.

Baltimore Police would not reveal what’s behind the suspension but said it is not criminal and is not connected to Nadeau’s work.

During a routine press briefing the Mayor addressed the suspension, and also told reporters “this is not about his work.”

“We cannot talk about an investigation like that. We obviously have to follow the laws,” said Mayor Brandon Scott, when asked the reason for the suspension.

Deputy Commissioner Brian Nadeau oversees BPD’s Public Integrity & Compliance Bureau, an entity meant to ensure police accountability, and has been with the Department since 2019.

When asked if this suspension will impact any investigations Nadeau is currently or has been part of a spokesperson with Baltimore Police wrote ‘n/a’.

The Mayor was questioned on any concerns about accountability and public trust.

“I would think that that’s why we’re doing this investigation. And this is going to show the difference in BPD today than BPD of latter years, right? Because we know things like this used to be pushed under the rug, especially when it was someone at this level. We’re showing that everybody can be held accountable in the police department, even someone in a role like his. And we will take the same process to go through this investigation and take those same types of actions that you’ve seen us take, said Scott.

BPD has not yet identified the outside agency investigating.
