LOUDON COUNTY, Va. (7News) — A motion for a competency evaluation was granted for 27-year-old Elijah Bienemy, who is accused of shooting his mother, Mia Bieniemy, 57, at their Ashburn home on Sunday evening.
Elijah is the son of former Washington Commanders and current Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting happened around 7:32 p.m. in the 2000 block of Northpark Drive.
Upon arrival, officers found Mia suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
She was initially in the ICU, but has since been moved out and is stable, according to reports.
Loudoun County Sheriff Mike Chapman said Mia was the one who made the call to 911 following the shooting.

The sheriff’s office said Elijah has been charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling. He was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
The next scheduled court date for Elijah is September 9 at 8:32 a.m.
Chapman said there had been no previous incidents reported at the home.
The Chiefs released the following statement to 7News on Monday.
“The club is aware of the incident involving Eric Bieniemy’s family. Out of respect for their privacy, we won’t have a comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
Eric Bieniemy spent one season as offensive coordinator for the Washington Commanders in 2023. Under head coach Andy Reid, he led the Chiefs offense to two Super Bowl victories in the 2019-20 and 2022-23 seasons.
